In response to...

I started this blog for my strategic fashion communication class and as a part of this project I'm going to mention a fellow classmate's blog post. She mentions the transition from revealing clothing to more modest, simple clothes more appropriate for everyday wear. And with the popularity of apparel companies like American Apparel, where it's easy to buy a simple, comfortable shirt for a reasonable price, it's easier now for women to dress without worrying about flashing her navel.

And I have to say I agree with her sentiments and I am glad that women's style has evolved past the pleather and midriff baring tops so prevalent in the late 90's. And although the 90's are making a strong comeback, (and I am guilty of an infatuation with strong shoulder blazers that would make a Golden Girl blush with shame), it's comforting to know that the styles of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera circa 1999 will never return.

Knock on wood.

Model Style: Lily Donaldson

We're so accustomed to seeing models as muses on the runway. They are distant, waifish creatures who are difficult to relate to. On the flip side it's always refreshing to see a model's street style and see them wear clothes other than the whimsical haute couture creations paraded on the runways. (Although don't get me wrong, I love a great haute couture collection just as much as the next fashionista).

So today's post is all about British model Lily Donaldson's street style. She has a casual, rocker sensibility when she dresses and although most people will still never relate to her, it's at least a little comforting to see that she prefers wearing leather jackets and jean shorts everyday.Photo credit: Flickr
